چکیده
We report a fast neutron and gamma induced radiation dose and flux monitoring study during the nano-particle production at the proton beam irradiation facility. The monitoring results will be used for understanding of the activation of irradiated samples and the effect to the nano-particle production. A cylindrical shape of BC523A liquid scintillator was used for the fast neutron and gamma monitoring purpose. A neutron tagger module was used for the signal digitization and it has a function of pulse shape discrimination capability by using a charge comparison method. Samples for the nano-particle production were irradiated with 45-MeV proton beam from the MC-50 cyclotron at the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences. The fast neutron detector was located just behind of the sample. Proton beam current from 20 nA to 500 nA was used for the test. The measured neutron and gamma flux, energy spectra, and neutron and gamma induced radiation dose in the liquid scintillator were evaluated and compared with different sample setup. This study showed that the developed detection system is useful for the absorbed dose and flux monitoring of neutron and gamma in the proton beam line.

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is an effective method for treatment of deep seated brain tumors. This method consists of two stages: injection of boron compound in the patient body, and then irradiation of the region tumors with the neutron beam. It allows for delivery of high linear energy transfer (LET) radiation (particles 4He and 7Li nuclei) to tumors at the cellular level whilst avoi...

Background: The trabecular bone changes in the tibia of C3H/HeN mice were measured 12 weeks after whole body irradiation with various doses of fast neutrons (0-2.4 Gy) or 137Cs-generated gamma-rays (0-6 Gy). Materials and Methods: Serum calcium, phosphorus, estradiol concentration and alkaline phosphatase activity were measured. Tibiae were anal...

Introduction Today, there is a growing interest in the use of hadrontherapy as an advanced radiotherapy technique. Hadrontherapy is considered a promising tool for cancer treatment, given its high radiobiological effectiveness and high accuracy of dose deposition due to the physical properties of hadrons. However, new radiation modalities of dose delivery and on-line beam monitoring play crucia...
متن کاملMaking a novel method to obtain the required irradiation time in fast neutron radiation therapy of liver tissue
During radiotherapy by any radiation, it is always essential to stop absorbing the excess dose by a tissue. To better treat cancerous tissues and to make more precise irradiation for a cancerous tumor, there needs the accurate irradiation time to be estimated. First, the constituent materials of any of the existing organs in abdominal tissue are extracted and defined in the MCNPX code. Then, ev...
